I loved it!! Thank you for the acknowledgements, so beautiful, moved me to tears.
Your book is really, really great. The best novel I read for a long time. And that may say something, because I simply an old, hetero man. But your characters deeply fascinating.
You set the story in the time of the elections in 2016. I wonder how you feel in 2025 about the situation. I am afraid many things have developed in the wrong direction.

The way you nailed the setting of South Dakota. Wow. I live in Sioux Falls. I feel safe as a lesbian, gender non-conforming. I would not in Mitchell

This is beautiful. I’m halfway through and I’m really loving it. The story is beautiful, the characters are fully fleshed out, and I can’t help but root for the ones I thought I wouldn’t. My wife is trans, and this book feels like a peak into her experience. I’m grateful to have found something so compelling and thought provoking.
Just finished, and I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect ending. Thank you for crafting something so thoughtful—it’s already one of my favorites. I’m hoping for a sequel someday, but until then, I’ll be eagerly waiting for whatever you write next. :)

Stumbled across this book in suggestions for one of the reading challenge and looking forward to reading. I grew up in Sioux Falls until high school and graduated from Mitchell high. It’s always heartwarming to see books or movies based in SD.
I’m SO grateful you wrote this beautiful book and I’m only sorry I can’t spend more time with Abigail and Erica

Emily, thank you for sharing this book with the world. I was intrigued by all the characters but immediately fell in love with Abigail. I have a young nephew who recently asked to change his pronouns to she/her and I couldn't be happier for her. She loved Barbies, princesses, and everything girl from the time she started walking. Her parents and immediate family like myself have always supported her in being herself, but we have extended family, including my father, who say things to my sister like "why do you let him dress like a girl or play with those toys". It's heartbreaking and the rest of us feel a need to protect her to allow her to be herself. I was thinking of her throughout the story reading about Abigail in particular. I hope more people can read this and open their hearts because whether you are trans, gay, bi or however you identify with your sexual orientation, that doesn't make you any different of a human being than everyone else. ❣️

I'm almost done reading the novel and I love it. Not only is it well written, it offers also possibly the best (as far as I know) insights into the reality of being trans and living it in these difficult times.

Thank you for writing this book. My young adult child came out as trans last year, then recently clarified they are transfemme gender fluid. I can see bits of my child in the stories of Erica and Abigail with some similar thoughts and feelings. I hope and pray that the world becomes a kinder and healthier place for all trans people where they can live freely as themselves.
I loved your Girls’ recaps back in the day and marked this book as Want to Read before I knew it was you. Can’t wait to get my hands on this.

Not only is it just a pleasure to read, but it helps me understand my trans friends experiences in a whole different way without them having to re-live it. All around great read, and I can’t wait to read the next one!!!
