I'd like to suggest a series by Lila Guzmán about an orphan in Texas during America's Revolutionary War. I just finished book 2 of the series, "Lorenzo's Secret Mission." Lila crafts well-rounded characters, both fictional and real, placing them in historically-based settings. "Lorenzo's Secret Mission" is a historical novel for middle-grade readers. As with book one, "Lorenzo's Rebolutionary Quest," this series equally challenges adult readers with its style and historical impact on a part of the war few authors write about. All Texas middle school students should read these three books. I can't wait to start book 3, "Lorenzo and the Turncoat."Marie Sontag, author of The Ancient Elements Series

I would love to recommend a book for our group's bookshelf or future group read consideration! It matches our club's focus perfectly.
• Title: Asayi An Autistic Teen’s Journey to Topple a Shogun in Medieval Japan”
• Author: Sharon Curcio
• Genre/Trope: Historical Fiction / Neurodivergent Protagonist
• Quick Hook: As volume one in a trilogy about the fall of the ruling House, House Ashikaga, the Shogun marries Asayi, (who presents as mute), to her father’s successor as the new Chief Scribe, but Nabui despises his defective wife and frames her for adultery. She is branded, exiled, and her body is dumped in the countryside. Everyone believes she is dead: but is she?
Could an administrator please add this to our group shelf? I would love to see what other members think of it.
Thank you for all you do to run this club!
