November 2026 Nominations > Likes and Comments

For November our theme is Indigenous Reads. I want to clarify, for this group Indigenous reads means a book centered on an Indigenous people. This could be an Indigenous Tribe of the US or Canada. This could be a book on the Maori, the indigenous people of Australia. You could pick a book on the Indigenous people of South America or a book on the Sami, the indigenous people of Sweden, Finland and other Northern European countries. These are just some examples and this list is not all inclusive. Whatever indigenous group you chose a book on, please include in your description how the book fits the theme. Further, the book must STILL be historical fiction! The book MUST also be available in at least two of the three formats-Book, ebook, and audiobook.


REMINDERS
NO SELF NOMINATION- Any member who self nominates a book, will have the post deleted and the member will be removed from the group.
NOMINATION POST MUST INCLUDE: TITLE, AUTHOR, AND PUBLICATION DATE - If any one of these three things is missing from the nomination post, it will not be counted.

Dark Emu by Bruce Pascoe there is also a childrens version Young Dark Emu.

Appears to comes in audio book with kindle purchase.
Looks at precolonial, indigenous Australians.

I nominate Tidewater: A Novel of Pocahontas and the Jamestown Colony by Libbie Hawker. Historical fiction set in early 17th century America. Available as physical, e-book and audio. 539 pages.

I have read this and rated it 5 stars and on my favorite shelf. I would love to re-read this title. Realistic presentation; definitely NOT the Disney version.

Unfortunately it looks like this is nonfiction rather than historical fiction.

I nominate The End of Drum-Time by Hanna Pylväinen about the Sami people of the Arctic circle. Published in 2023.

I nominate The Night Watchman by Louise Erdrich. Published 2020.
This is based on the author's grandfather's life. The main character fights against Native dispossession from rural North Dakota all the way to Washington, D.C. Set in the 1950s.
