Spoken like a man who has no idea what it’s actually like to be a woman - or how terrifying it is to watch as parts of what as supposed to be a civilised society are already stripping away women’s rights!!! If you can’t see that we are still pointing the finger at outsiders, blaming the minority and on the verge of women having no autonomy over their bodies it’s no wonder you didn’t like the book.
I also don't have an idea what it's like to be a women - still, in Western societies you are allowed to e.g. choose your own husband right? Just because sexism is still rampant (and on the increase, as you've correctly stated) that doesn't mean women don't have it better now than a few hundred years ago. You would very likely not have been able to write that comment otherwise...
Just because some aspects have improved does not mean it's better. Better would be completely equal. My own mother wasn't even able to get a mortgage without a husband or father consent just unless a decade before I was born. And in my lifetime all the hard work that has been made is now, in the USA, has begun to be stripped away again. From body autonomy to motions being put forward to restrict women being able to again live financially independently. So no. Things are not better. It will be better when true equality has been achieved.
Can I just butt in amd add that I also found the chapter format off putting.
Vicky Stewart, improved and better are synonyms, so you are contradicting yourself. The big difference is between better and best.
