I’m wondering how this reads compared to his 1988 book, Winfield, A player’s life. With so much happening to Big Dave after the first book, I’m sure the new book will also be an enjoyable read from a true giant of the game.
It's a sequel of sorts. He gives a chapter or so refresher on the Padres years. Some new stuff. The meat of the book is the Steinbrenner/Howie Spira mess. I think it's a strong book. I would've included a little more Padres stuff. 288 pages seems a little light for a player of Winfield's caliber and experiences, but the book remains a very strong read.
