Same here. I’m 75% done and I feel like I got a copy to another book than what others are reading. I’ve struggled to keep reading it. Half the time I don’t know what’s going on. I feel like it’s more than writing style than the plot, but a bit of both. Major bummer.
I’m feeling this - at page 180 and debating whether go push through. I am just not connecting or wanting to pick it up.
I had to DNF at around page 110. I read A LOT of fantasy and it was hard to stay focused on this world. I think, for me, it was that almost all descriptions were exposition vs showing us. So much dialogue and that felt stilted.
The reasons that you didn’t like the book were the exact reasons why I did. But, the Tainted Cup was not your cup of tea.
Same! I want to love this book but I keep rereading pages due to boredom of it. Im up to page 232 and turned to reviews here to see why I’m missing the hype.
I agree, I had a hard time getting into this book… even dropped it for a period of time and then finished it because I was travelling and had my ereader with me.
If I wrote reviews consistently, this is the review I would write for this book. Sadly, I bought the 2 books currently in this series already so I guess I’ll attempt the next one, but I don’t have high hopes.
You hit the nail on how I feel about this book, I just couldn’t get through all the terminology and I’m not new to fantasy, felt like I’d missed a whole chapter introducing me to the world!
