That plot reminds me of the 1989 movie The War of the Roses and the 1986 movie Heartburn. Except their take on it was comedic and it sounds like this author is taking herself too seriously.
@Kate: Yeah, this book didn’t have an ounce of comedy to offset all the lying etc. SO many people love this story, though, so it may just be me that strongly dislikes nothing but nastiness and deceit until the very, VERY end. I prefer slow growth to love rather than a “Ta Da!” end moment…
