Sci-Fi Books that Read Like Submarine Thrillers > Likes and Comments

Hello friends! I’ve been on a bit of a kick trying to find mil sci-fi stories that approach naval warfare more like what you would see in submarine fiction a la Das Boot and Run Silent, Run Deep. I am a superfan of The Expanse which overall handles all naval battles like submarines (no visibility, long-time maneuvers and weapons systems, etc.), but I am looking for something that is narrower in scope. Are there any good books that you recommend? Part of the reason I ask is that I’m mulling over writing such a story, but want to get an idea if what’s out there and how those authors capture it. Thank you!

Try The Dragon in the Sea by Frank Herbert. This is submarine science fiction. Note that it dates from 1956.

Hey Noah! I personally love stories in space that analogize submarine battles and the deep sea and The Expanse does a great job with that. Seriously query newer sci fi books that have a space or first contact theme. I know you’ll find some pretty good imagery that has a submarine feel to it throughout the stories. I grew up with Hunt for the Red October and submarines and stories that have a submarine feel to them but close to my heart.

I just learned a new term! I had no idea this was a thing, but of course now that I do it makes total sense. (Also a superfan of The Expanse. :D)
