I ought to read this, but I am not good with poetry, too impatient. The richness of retelling of Homer (he was a 'reteller' himself) is never ending.
I have a shelf here dedicated to Penelope, I'll have to add this books to that list. Thanks, David!

It's just a GR shelf, David, and now that I come to think of it, it's mainly poetry. So I guess Penelope must be a good inspiration for poets. :-)

I can see why Paula. I have the Atwood on order at the library but thanks to the movie, it’s a long wait.
Lovely review, David, as you say, perfect for having just read The Odyssey. I'm enjoying the Homer and have hopes for Telemachus' recovery without therapy!
Lovely review, David - glad that these poems came so timely for you and that Glück's use of the Homeric figures to explore relationships resonated with you. It was the first collection I read by Louise Glück, it was wonderful to read those poems again. Thank you for sharing them.

Thanks Jeanne. TElemachus in a modern world…oh how he would struggle, ha ha. But consider this after The Odyssey.

Thanks so much Ilse. I have read only a later work by Glück and I really admire her poetry. This one was perfect for me…did you recommend this to me? If so an even bigger thanks.

Thanks so much Mark. I did see the movie and enjoyed it. Although I was reluctant to see it, It seemed to follow the book more or less and so it prompted me to read the Odyssey. Ilse suggested this book of poems and it all fits together so nicely.
