Yes it does seem the side effect of extending eligibility and the entry quota system. But how say Praiseworhy missed out I have no idea.
Both books made the far more prestigious Barker Prize.
Yes although the prize money of that one is a bit questionable.

Arborescence by Rhett Davis was also more than worthy of the longlist. I was only saying last night how the rest of the world miss out on so many incredible works by Australian authors that never seem to be seen further afield unless they win/have won a major award or are a well known author. We used to see so many Australians on the Booker longlist and the quality of work being produced certainly hasn’t decreased.
