For nearly 20 years, I was away from church.
I believed in God, but if I’m being truthful, I wasn’t really walking with Him. Life happened, years passed, and church became something that just wasn’t part of my life anymore.
Then this year, our family walked through something that completely changed me.
Our newborn son, Jaxon, was born with a congenital heart defect and needed open-heart surgery at only 6 days old. There were moments in that hospital when I was absolutely terrified. As a father, I wanted to fix everything for my son, and for the first time I had to accept that there were things completely outside of my control.
So I prayed.
And somewhere through the fear, hospital rooms, sleepless nights and uncertainty, my faith started coming back.
After almost 20 years away, I walked back into church. What started as one of the scariest chapters of my life became the chapter that brought me back to God.
Jaxon is home today, and our family is back attending church. I eventually wrote our story, Jaxon’s Journey: A Story of Fear, Faith, Family, and Hope, because I felt like what we went through was bigger than us.
I don’t have every answer about why we had to walk this road. But I know I didn’t walk it alone.
Sometimes God meets us exactly where we are even if it takes us 20 years to find our way back.

Jaxon’s Journey : A STORY OF FEAR, FAITH, FAMILY, AND HOPE

For a period of time, I served as a leader in women’s ministry, and I often used to say that true faith is revealed in the valley, not on the mountaintop. It is in the difficult seasons that we discover how deeply we truly trust God.

I was married at 15, gave my life to the Lord, was baptised at 16, and at 17 I experienced the loss of my first baby when I was seven months pregnant. Through that painful season, I still believed that the Lord was with me and would not leave me.

My life has not always been easy, and even now there are difficult seasons, but I continue to trust Jesus. In every season, He is with us.

I always encourage people to build a personal relationship with the Lord and to trust Him regardless of what they are going through. When you truly know Him, you can walk through the valley with Him and come out stronger. Seasons pass, but He remains faithful.

In our walk with the Lord, we know God can turn our messes into miracles, turn our sorrows back to joy and that nothing is impossible with Him.

I had the privilege last Saturday to hear several Christian women share their struggles and testimonies. What they all stated was
profound, even though they didn't understand the "why", they realized that God was using them to encourage others. We never walk alone no matter what we're going through. Keep on sharing your testimonies, someone needs to hear them. Hallelujah!.

Thank you so much for sharing this with me. Your testimony is incredibly powerful, especially everything you have walked through and still being able to say that God remained faithful through it all. After being away from church for nearly 20 years, I’m learning more every day that God never stopped pursuing me even when I wasn’t pursuing Him. Anne-Marie, thank you so much. “God can turn our messes into miracles” really hit home for me. There were moments during Jaxon’s journey when I couldn’t understand the why, and looking back now I can see God working through people, circumstances and even some of our hardest days.
