Gabriel Kerguelen G'day everyone,

I'm Gabriel, a Perth-based author and a long-time reader of this group. I spent my career in aerospace and high tech across Europe and Asia-Pacific before turning to fiction, and I write hard SF techno-thrillers: realistic, scientifically grounded, with a mystical edge.

Uluru , the first book of my trilogy The Price of the Stars, opens right here in Perth, moves down to Yallingup in the Margaret River region, then heads into Asia.

Aging geneticist Joaquim Moreau discovers an extraordinary molecule: instant healing, cellular rejuvenation, once-incurable diseases gone. The miracle cure of the century, and the key to unimaginable wealth. But it hides two secrets. The first is an absolute dependency: those who take it stop wanting, working, hoping, and sink into a peace so perfect it becomes lethal. The Indigenous peoples of Australia knew this substance and had forbidden it for millennia. The second is even more unsettling: in rare carriers of a genetic mutation, it splits consciousness. The body stays in stasis while the mind escapes toward the Moon, Mars, Venus and beyond.

While labs, corporations and criminal networks fight an invisible war for control of the substance, one man waits in the shadows, with a plan to bring everything to a halt so the planet can breathe again.

One question runs through the whole trilogy: what are we willing to lose to reach the stars?

Something that mattered a lot to me: I wanted to show Australia as it really is, not the usual postcard of kangaroos, crocodiles and larrikins. The landscape, the science, the people and the deep history of this country are the engine of the story, not the scenery.

The trilogy was first published in French, where it reached #1 in science fiction in France (Uluru was named Book of the Year and Best Science Fiction Novel at the PPI 2025 awards), and it's also doing very well in Germany. The English edition is now complete:
1. Uluru
2. Olympus
3. Andromeda

"It had been a long time since I'd found a book that kept me up at night. The last one to do that was The Three-Body Problem." (Amazon reader, 5 stars)

For readers of Cixin Liu, Greg Egan and Kim Stanley Robinson.

Sharing with the group: having written a story so rooted in WA, I'd simply love for Aussie readers to discover it. I'm giving away 10 free ebook copies to members, no strings attached. New to the series? Start with Uluru. Already read it? Pick Olympus or Andromeda instead. Just reply below or send me a message. And if you ever feel like sharing your thoughts on Goodreads afterwards, I'd be delighted (just mention it was a free copy), but it's entirely up to you.

For anyone doing the Aussie Authors Book Bingo or the A-Z Real Life Locations challenge, Uluru might tick a box, and Book 1 is also $0.99 on Kindle (Amazon AU) until 11 October.

I'd love to hear from readers who enjoy SF set in Australia. And if you've read other books that show WA or the Outback beyond the clichés, please tell me, I'm always hunting for more.
