I completely understand that every book won’t work for every reader. I know comparisons are part of how books are marketed, and I have enormous respect for Shankari Chandran and her work, but I’ve never aspired to be another Shankari. I hope there’s room for Sri Lankan writers to have very different voices, styles and stories, and for our books to be read on their own terms too.
