Ron Jenkins Reader,

Artificial intelligence can analyze massive amounts of data to find hidden patterns, make fast predictions, answer complex questions, and create new content like text, images, and code.

It acts as a powerful tool to process information, but it does not possess true human feelings or consciousness. There is no Real Understanding: AI mimics human language and logic through math, but it does not actually "know" or feel what it says.

AI can generate the text for a complete novel, but unedited raw output usually lacks deep emotional resonance, distinct voice, structural consistency, and veers off into unrelated fantasy. Most authors and creators use AI as a collaborative tool—such as a brainstorming partner or outlining assistant—rather than a full replacement for human storytelling.

Artificial intelligence can both translate novels into different languages and convert text into realistic spoken voice narration or transcribe spoken ideas into written text. However, the quality varies and using it for creative writing involves important trade-offs in nuance and industry acceptance. Most authors use AI for a rough first pass.

While modern AI voices sound remarkably human, they can occasionally mispronounce unique fantasy names, misinterpret emotional inflection, or lack the intuitive depth of a professional human voice actor. Quality can be improved if followed by thorough human editing and proofreading to ensure artistic quality.

I have an ARC version of the second book in my series that I'm circulating to friends as an audiobook.

I want to keep this conversation moving like I do with the characters in my book. The two main characters will be together for a long time. So, it is important to the story that things change.

I try to make each new book a stand-alone. That requires explanation which can hinder or help. Feedback is important. My friends who read my last book were very helpful in the first book to make the audiobook the final addition.

I thought I would reverse that this time, since I also found giving my characters a voice... made the conversations clearer and the settings more colorful. I thought it would be nice to get your opinion about all this AI stuff.

Ron

Steven Henry My opinion is that AI has no place in creative writing. It is a false voice, and "creates" a product that is inherently derivative and inhuman.

More to the point, it undermines the very reason art exists, which is communication with other human beings through creative expression. AI mimics this communication, but is not, and never will be, genuine.

Additionally, AI writing tools only exist through semi-legalized intellectual property theft from actual authors, so I find it unethical as well as hollow and unsatisfying.

I have never, and will never, use AI tools in my writing. Every word I put on a page will be my own.

Sorry for the strong opinion, but that is my answer.

Ron Jenkins Use spell check or grammer tools much? This comment box just tried to change grammar to crammer... I corrected it and ended up with grammer. I hate it when AI corrects me. Don't you?

Ron Jenkins Maybe you will understand what I am getting at here if I include a link to my Free ARC Audiobook here on this site. Take a look at all the information there that is relevant to this topic.
