Fascinating. Never heard of this one!
A very Cortázar-esque review this, Roy! Shall look this up.
And best of luck for the new teaching assignment.
Your account made me rethink my endeavor to read Thomas Mann's Der Zauberberg in German. After 17 months I'm only at 38% on Kindle and haven't gotten to anything I consider worthwhile yet, though I do read German fluently and am aware of the novel's underlying symbolism. Should I be encouraged by your narrative or call it quits?
It’s really hard for me to say. I’m both glad I read this book in the original and certain that I would have enjoyed it more in English. 17 months is a long time though! I think it can be difficult to keep the whole book in your mind at that rate.
