BookLover So this is an odd question.. does it feel different when you read a book after you start writing your own? cause like I heard that it’s like different. I heard that it’s like you don’t get to be sucked in the story as much as you once did or stuff like that. Does that make sense? I don’t know but sorry for the odd question. I’m just curious.

message 2: by Ever (new)

Ever It’s different bc I notice more. But I still get sucked in

message 3: by ❀Kaiyaaaa❀ (new)

❀Kaiyaaaa❀ #HappyThirstyThursday Umm yeah, a little I mean I’m not published but yeah, same thing for acting with me like I don’t rly watch the show I watch the acting yk

message 4: by Cl0udd (new)

Cl0udd I’m more focused on how it’s written, and somehow that makes it more better? Idk seeing all the different styles of writing and then writing your own book makes you appreciate the other books more

message 5: by BookLover (new)

BookLover Like are you still in the book and you notice the writing? Like does it bother you? Sorry for these questions it’s just I’m really curious about it.

eloise (i wrote a book version) I found being a committed writer puts me into more reading slumps than i used to have haha

but for the whole matter of "being sucked in" it just depends on the book. some books just do not click with me as of lately and being a writer (and knowing i would hate it if someone felt forced to read my books) i have felt a lot more comfortable DNFing books loll
other books have kept me pretty engrossed!

i personally don't really feel like writing has caused much of an issue to my reading. it's probably because i have never read anything like my book so i have nothing else to compare it to/analyze lol

message 7: by Helena (new)

Helena Troy Yes, I instantly started analysis of other books.

message 8: by BookLover (new)

BookLover Okay, that makes sense. Thank you!

message 9: by Lylia (new)

Lylia Jude I do still get sucked in, but now I notice all these little mistakes and errors and things and I'm like "Hmmmm I want to do better" if that makes sense

message 10: by BookLover (new)

BookLover That does make sense. thank you! Lately I’m just thinking about writing. I’m not saying I’m gonna do it or anything, but I was curious about that because some people said some things about that and I was curious. lol so thank you!

message 11: by Janelle (new)

Janelle it's the same thing with musical theater...i have been in so many productions that whenever i see a musical or broadway show i am vicariously tracking everything the actors do, loll

Vannah {Sweet Catalina Era} Sky uh yes. it make me appreciate the writing and author even more. I analyze thing the characters do in different and take the techniques(for lack of better word I cant think)I like and apply it in my writing

message 13: by BookLover (new)

BookLover Ahhh okay yeah that makes sense. I was maybe thinking about taking writing classes. Im still thinking about it but yeah. thank you for answering my questions!!!

message 17: by BookLover (new)

BookLover Oh I’ve never read it. I’ll have to get it

message 18: by BookLover (new)

BookLover Is it YA?

message 19: by T.J. (last edited Oct 01, 2026 07:07PM) (new)

T.J. EMMA Thanks for asking! It isn't YA. The Tranquility: The Burak is adult dark epic fantasy, with political intrigue, a tragic fall from grace, and a darker tone, so it's closer to Game of Thrones than to a typical YA fantasy

Vannah {Sweet Catalina Era} Sky I like it, sound interesting for lack of better vocab

message 21: by BookLover (new)

BookLover Sounds interesting. i’ll have read it.

Thank you, that means a lot! 😊 No worries about the word, "interesting" works perfectly. If you like dark fantasy with a tragic twist, I think you'd enjoy it. What kind of fantasy do you usually read?

Vannah {Sweet Catalina Era} Sky I'm guilty of being basic
I've read
The Cruel Prince
Fourth Wing
Powerless

Vannah {Sweet Catalina Era} Sky don't worry I love dark stuff

Not as basic as me, I have only read Harry Potter.
