Sara This is the thread for the October 2026 Buddy Read of The Odd Women by George Gissing.

message 2: by Sam (new)

Sam I'll be coming in for this in a week or two.

message 3: by Kathleen (new)

Kathleen I'll be starting a little later too--a week from now, at least.

Glad you'll be reading, Sam. I think Terris is looking forward to this, and Sara, I hope you'll be able to fit it in at some point.

Anyone else?

message 4: by Terris (new)

Terris Yes, I'm excited to get started on this one but, like you, it might be a week before I can start! :)

message 5: by Sara (new)

Sara Looks as if we might all be starting together. I have it slated for the second week.

message 6: by Carolien (new)

Carolien I picked up my copy from the library this morning, so will also be joining.

message 7: by Terris (new)

Terris Oh good, Carolien! The more, the merrier! ;)

Terris I just started reading -- only about 15 pages in. But I am liking it already! I have only read "New Grub Street" by Gissing, but I do not know why I haven't read him until the last couple of years?! I enjoy his writing so much and am looking forward to getting further into this book. The subject matter (women of the era) looks like it will be pretty interesting, too! I'm excited to see what Gissing has to say ;)

Sara I have also started, but this is going to be a slow read for me because I will have to steal the time I can--probably some very late night reading. I like Gissing's style.

Terris I'm glad you've started, even if it's at a slow pace.
Of course, I'm listening, so it will go a little faster for me. But, I agree, I really like Gissing's style. His writing really flows :)
