Summary

The Jackal. A tall, blond Englishman with opaque, gray eyes. A killer at the top of his profession. A man unknown to any secret service in the world. An assassin with a contract to kill the world's most heavily guarded man.

One man with a rifle who can change the course of history. One man whose mission is so secretive not even his employers know his name. And as the minutes count down to the final act of execution, it seems that there is no power on earth that can stop the Jackal.

Gem ✿Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ✿ I plan on reading this selection (I loved the TV series) but I'll be late posting as since the waiting list at my library is about four weeks.

I consider the novel to be a classic masterpiece. I feel the same about the 1973 movie with Edward Fox. I consider the Bruce Willis-Richard Gere remake AND the Apple TV adaptation to be blasphemy. Why didn't AppleTV just use the limited series format to tell the entire story of characters in the book?

Tiny Lobby I think the book works because Forsyth never lets us root for the Jackal, yet we can't stop watching the patient, almost procedural way he prepares. Most adaptations try to give him a heart, and that's exactly what the novel refuses to do.

Tiny, that is the whole trick, and it is why the book still grips when you know from the first page that de Gaulle lives. You watch a man be careful for four hundred pages and never once get let inside him. Did the Apple series lose you the moment it handed him a family, or did you hang on for the procedure anyway?
