I think a lot of your questions will get answered in the next few books in the series (there are four planned) although a few may not. The frustration with Neil’s “how can he love if he doesn’t know it” is based in all of our youthful inexperience. He has no idea what he is talking about and has a ton of worries if any of this is real. He’s seventeen and doesn’t know anything about Cade’s family except for one airport observation.
The second book comes out in November where we wake up in Neil’s bedroom the morning after prom, and the following book takes us back to 8th grade when they met which gives us the full Mads-Cade scene in Edinburgh. That should come out in late spring or early summer. The fourth book brings us back to the end of book 2 where they make a major life decision while in Naples. I think you’ll enjoy more travel and adventure especially in book 2 where we finally board the Riley yacht in the Mediterranean while Cade nervously carries his grandfather’s ring in his pocket for a week, with all of their friends in tow. There are no more third-act breakups. I dislike those also.
