Very fair and honest review, Robert! She pumps books out so quickly that I never go into them expecting anything spectacular.

Hi Nancy. Thanks for your comment. Yeah, I totally agree. I feel like she prefers quantity over quality which is fine for some, but after awhile, all of her books are essentially the same with different characters and locations. She has had 4 books published this year and supposedly there's a new one coming out in early 2027.
At some point I hope she slows down and works on improving the overall experience.
I agree with this so much. It was like Home Before Dark and The Only One Left had a terrible baby. I also agree the historical storyline was far more interesting. If she had gleaned on to that, could have maybe eked out two stars from me.
I so agree with the historical timeline was the stronger part of the book! The present day had me in and out.
I did find the historical part a lot more enjoyable from a storytelling standpoint, but I found it incredibly hard to connect with. We're supposed to believe it takes place in the late 1600s, yet if we didn't have the headings telling us which POV we were in, I'd have thought it was set in a contemporary setting. I'm not saying she needed to write in a 1600s dialect, necessarily, but the dialogue, setting, and even the characters' inner thoughts should reflect how people of that era would have thought and spoken. The present-day storyline was just blah. But I did finish the book.
