Hey Sharon! Totally feel you when you said you don't like Natalie at all. That's me as well. But I believe that's the whole point of the story- to loathe her, and be pissed at her. I was also contemplating to DNF it but the last 20% of the book blew me.
Though things got very different in the 1800s, Natalie never became pleasant. I think you made a good call on this one.
Not an outlier, this seems to be a love or hate book. I've had it on and off my TBR list and think I'll take it back off, until I read the next review haha

Thanks for sharing your perspective, Nusfaq. I may give it a second try.

LOL!!
Well the very point is to show the hollowness…but even though I read it through, I wound up at two stars also. You might find my review illuminating. I’m glad you DNF’d; too many better choices to get to!
It's trash - the narrator is unreliable, not just unlikeable - so we can't really be sure anything she is saying is true because she's been pharmaceutically manipluated for 20+ years and raped and beaten.
Anyone who finds this book humorous is missing the forest for the trees.

Your review was very illuminating and insightful. I admire your willingness to read it to the end and to provide thoughtful perspectives in your review on what worked well and what didn't work.
