Hello everyone. I’m TJ Toce, and I just published How the World Gets High, a nonfiction tour of how people across history and around the globe have used mind-altering plants, fungi and animals. It goes from Xenophon’s Greek army being knocked flat by “mad honey” in 401 BCE, to the Gurung honey hunters on Nepal’s cliffs, to a Mediterranean fish the Romans called “the fish that makes dreams.” My rule while writing it was facts first: real history, real science, and honest warnings, with no hype.
