Drowning the central paradoxes of reality in a bloated, multi-threaded plot usually just means an author is using structural noise to mask a thin grasp of the core concepts. It doesn't take an endless multi-book epic to destabilize a physicalist worldview, just a few clean, uncompromising observations about the role of the observer.
