Heather L It’s time to refresh a couple older discussions, as they are getting too long and take longer to load. This is the place to discuss any cozy mysteries you are currently reading or have just finished. Please remember to use the “spoiler” tags, so as not to spoil plots or endings for other readers.

Karen Lean Mean Thirteen (Stephanie Plum, #13) by Janet Evanovich _ Lean Mean Thirteen (Stephanie Plum, #13) by Janet Evanovich ** Lean Mean Thirteen

Still using the Janet Evanovich series Stephanie Plum as my work "radio." I'm through book 13, with book 13b queued.

Eight Enchanting Elixirs (Kitchen Witch Mysteries) by Lynn Cahoon
I'm also reading (hard-copy) book 8 of the Kitchen Witch series by Lynn Cahoon, Eight Enchanting Elixirs. Series consistency with timing of past events matching characters ages when those event happened, etc. still prevalent. But... I enjoy the series so on I read.

marita lazarus reading Murder at a Country Wedding A 1920s Cozy Mystery (Lady Felicity Quick Mystery Book 12) by Rosie Hunt

half way through.... The book started off strong, and continues - wish I could read at work lol Will finish today....

finished:
Murder at a Country Wedding: A 1920s Cozy Mystery (Lady Felicity Quick Mystery Book 12) Murder at a Country Wedding: A 1920s Cozy Mystery by Rosie Hunt

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

5 stars - cause it sucked me in and gave me a happy ending.

I devoured this book. It started with a bang, and continued through out.... Twists and turns and red herrings. Why did someone shoot during Felicity and Coopers wedding... Is someone trying to kill Felicity ? We know there is a long line of suspects.... and who is leaving the notes, and why is there a strange man lurking about? I had so much fun trying to figure things out.... and failed.....

I loved the Dowager, I loved Pip and Jasper - omg I loved his gift.

We see the Dowager step in, with the help of friends to solve the mystery. I loved her role during this mystery. It brought a lightness to this cozie and makes you wish you had a grandmother as fierce and protective as she. AND PIP - so cute.... There is a part in the book where the police are waiting for a bloodhound to arrive from Exeter, but the Dowager suggest PIP takes it place .... I mean PIP is a Yorkie, not a blood hound.... The Dowager's disappointment that PIP wasn't considered to sleuth out clues was just too cute.

I've read all 12 books, and I must say this one is my favorite.

I enjoy these, just wish they weren't too short for most of my reading challenges! I run into this problem now and then and it's hard sometimes to squeeze them in, more's the pity.

Heather L Two recently completed:

* Books, Cooks, and Crooks by Lucy Arlington, book three of five in the Novel Idea series.

* Death by a Honeybee by Abigail Keam, book one in the Josiah Reynolds series. Good, with a literal cliffhanger ending that makes me look forward to diving into book two. Eventually.

Don't you hate when they add subtitles like "An utterly unputdownable English cozy murder mystery"? It just makes a book appear self-published. And it's sad because, while I'm not put off by that, other readers are. :-( Just as this book was great, others are too, but some people won't take a chance.

Yes, I do get put out by those 'subtitles'. I'll still try a book if it's something heavily recommended, but otherwise I tend to pass these by. Which is kind of sad as they may be good ones.

All you need to do is ask a librarian to remove the sub title Meg. I do it all the time. It's the publishers doing it, thinking they'll entice readers!! Just let me know if you want it fixed (I fixed the above one this morning)

Oh, I assumed the author added those. I've learned something new! Do you remove them only on Goodreads? Amazon is premarily where I find them hitting me. I'll let you know of the next one that bugs me.

Brenda I can't remove them from Amazon, but being a Goodreads librarian, means I can edit the books on here :)

Thank you for introducing me to this new series. I don't like Verity Bright's series, and I would have mistaken it for that, but this one sounds much less silly.

Heather L Ivonne wrote: "Heather L wrote: "Oh, my! I never can stand to wait! LOL!"

Alas, I was forced to wait. I had books to finish for other groups before the end of the month, one of which I’ve just finished — and I’m still slightly out of breath from a mad dash across a mist-shrouded moor with a madman in pursuit. Not a cozy, but it was good!

message 48: by Heather L (new)

Heather L I’m also chiming in on the side of despising the unnecessary subtitles. They completely turn me off, partly — as Ivonne and Meg suggested — because they come off sounding like unedited self-published tripe.

It's doing the opposite to what the publishers hope!
