My novel is about AI, but I never use AI in my writing - do you? > Likes and Comments

I will be the first one to tell you that AI is over my head! I started writing 53 years ago and will never rely on a computer programme (or whatever it is) to write my stories or letters. Even if it takes me months to finish, it will be written by me. I don't dislike AI per se, but I just don't understand it and have no clue how to use it!
I personally love creating, and if I hand any that to a computer, then I don't get to do that part. And I like all the parts. Even when I hate them.
I will not touch it. I believe that fiction writing is a bit of a soul searching experience, and utilizing GenAI to do it defeats that purpose. Also, I’m livid over the fact that one of my books can be found on the LibGen pirated books site that Anthropic used to train its models. Anthropic used author works without consent so that they could entice wannabe writers who don’t want to put in the effort to buy their product to do the work for them. They claim their collection of copyrighted material for training falls under fair use, and we all know that’s BS.
I use it to create free easter egg material - educational pieces on the real-world research behind my topics, autobiographical information (I'm not the type of person who likes to write/talk about myself - and as cautionary evidence re: the law of accelerating returns.
Used it for my book covers, only because artists can be expensive. I have used it for research or finding the right word, butt hats it. My stories are 100% mine and will not use AI to write my stories. I see AI as a tool, like spell check or an electronic thesaurus.
I use AI for research and editing and graphics generation. I write the book, though. When I have tried to let AI write, it's terrible. I'm a much better writer but AI is a brutally good line editor.
I just got scammed into participating in an online discussion group about my first novel, The Fifth Prophet. Didn't pay a cent, so I figured it must be legit. However, Goodreads took it down after a week of my apparently talking to fake people. (Are you guys really real?????) Yes, I've tried using CoPilot for my next book (about AI). It was quickly obvious that it was useless in writing/rewriting even a single paragraph. I thought it was working fairly well as a brutal editor, but it began skewing things in a direction I did not want. However, it is much better than Googling information.
I am drafting a revenge murder novel against the AI scammers than got me. :-)
The only thing I've used AI for in writing is when Microsoft Word used the 'finish this paragraph' feature. I would write half a scene and out of curiosity see where the AI thought the scene would lead. As expected, it usually went with the predictable outcome, which I would then erase and rewrite as something totally different ;)

Rogue AI: The exciting new dystopian sci-fi thriller from Mark Eluzai
Here in Authors/Readers I've read threads where an AI written post is replied to with a difference AI written comment, and then that AI comment is replied to by another AI comment. Are we even still here?
AI can definitely write a lot faster than we can, but I'm not sure what we gain, except novelty, from reading a thread which is mainly AIs talking to themselves?
What does it mean when someone decides they want to reply to your discussion or comment, but not enough that they want to spend the time or energy typing it themselves? Or might it be, that even writers are now becoming insecure about writing words, and need to outsource that to someone or something more articulate or reliable than themselves?
There's an honouring of someone when you hand write them a letter. It's taken me a long time to realise that. That honouring comes from the time and cost involved. I work with a guy who sends me long, positive emails with not much meaning - they're written by AI. It's quicker for him to get an AI to respond to me than to do it himself. But personally, these days, I think I'd prefer one line from him - badly spelt - to that oh-so-familiar 4-5 overly positive paragraphs about not very much.
Any other humans still out there? How are you experiencing this in your life?
