2027 New Releases > Likes and Comments

It's probably past time to open a 2027 New Releases thread—so here goes!

I guess you'll be moving some of the 2026 releases here. Sigh.

I only know about the Yoshimoto. Possibly one of the Kawakamis?

Banana Yoshimoto is now listed as 2028 on Amazon. 😭 What gives? 😭

Sonoko Machida - 52 hertz whales got also pushed to 2027

The Queen Bee Mystery by Seishi Yokomizo, translated by Matt Treyvaud is out 28th Jan 2027

I think I put some on the 2026 thread by accident so Hiromi Kawakami- Far From Everywhere is Feb '27 and The Black Cat House Murders by Yukito Ayatsuji also Feb '27

Okay not an accident they were supposed to be 2026 and got pushed back. Still I'm excited they are continuing to translate more Yokomizo! There are 77 books in the series so could be going for many years

One Woman and the War by Yōko Kondō translated by David Boyd.

Will be released on January 19th 2027 under Drawn and Quarterly.

(A melancholic portrait of Tokyo at the edge of collapse during the final days of World War II, by a celebrated Garo cartoonist Kondō.

Adapted from Ango Sakaguchi’s famous historical fiction/romance writing, the graphic novel follows two people bound not by love, but by proximity to ruin).

Marmalade Princess by Ito Shigeo translated by David Boyd.

Will be released on 16th of March 2027 under Drawn and Quarterly.

(This is a five-part graphic novella deliberately told out of order. Drawn in wiry black inks and filled in with distinct 80s pops of bright color reminiscent of Warhol’s latter-day prints, it follows a pack of trendy youths on what has all the makings of a madcap summer adventure).

The Culling Times by Yuko Tsushima translated by Dennis Washburn.

(A sweeping novel set between 1938 and 2011, this multi-generational story follows the history of one Japanese family as they live through World War II, a host of family dramas and finally, the Fukushima disaster. This deeply felt, formally inventive, ambitious novel pulls heavily from the author’s own life, including the death of her famous father, the writer Osamu Dazai).
