What's best for me is traveling to far off places I have yet to actually visit. As a writer we have to read books on the subject we write about, which means a lot of research. That research is my escape to the far reaches of the earth, and leaves me feeling like a well-traveled man. Of course, that doesn't replace the actual experience of travel, and I do so when I can. Unfortunately, there aren't enough jobs like Anthony Bourdain has.
