Jonathan Palfrey The story could be read as a tribute to the work and suffering of doctors and nurses this year; but it's interesting to hear to hear that it was coincidental. I'm reminded of Tolkien denying that The Lord of the Rings had anything to do with the Second World War: it was written at that time but conceived earlier.

Lois Bujold Well, it is a tribute to the work and suffering of medical caregivers, but that's not something new. More people are just less oblivious of it at present.
