Sometimes you have to let something rest for awhile. The first chapter of the MG novel I'm working on, had been written six times. I still didn't like it. I just moved on. Then something I read by Donald Maass about the reader buying in with the main character, made me start to think about it again. I sat down the next day, and the new first chapter flowed out in one sitting. Same setting, but completely new treatment.
