That's interesting. I am also very influenced by my emotions. In fact, I wrote my most powerful poems after a marriage breakups and when I adopted my daughter. Like you, my surroundings have also influenced some of the other poems I wrote.
I have a strong sense that most poetical writers are determined by their emotions. The ink flows freely in moments of despair or jubilation!
