It's one of the things that always strikes me about silent film, especially silent comedy--everyone is so young. Here they are, working in a completely new industry with no rules, they're young and creative and they look like they're having so much fun, making it up as they go along. Sometimes their stories ended happily, sometimes they didn't, but for those moments up on the screen, that happy, youthful creativity shines.
