I totally agree. It's inexplicable to me how denying 50% of the population equality and thus restricting their potential contribution to society has gone for so long. What motivates this behaviour? I suspect is fear & lust for power. Interestingly tho', my engineer husband, the go to member of his team, whilst receiving incremental salary raises which mean his pay is equal to that of his managers, has been consistently passed over for promotion towards management. On speaking to his boss, he was told it is because he can actually DO the job he was hired for! He explained those' promoted' to supervisory positions are often moved because they are not competent enough for the job in hand. Looking forward to the rest of the book :)
