I agree about the antibiotics. Infection is the biggest killer of burn victims, after the burns themselves. Although, if the ligaments in the backs of her hands were intact, she may have been able to "pinch" her fingers together in order to hold things, though her grip would not have been strong. My hand had a similar "claw-like" condition and I was able to pinch things a bit once it had healed enough. Then I had a skin graft over the knuckles and it freed my fingers enough to make my right hand the dominant one.
