Shomeret I have read that hatred of Jews goes back to Ancient Rome. The Roman Empire forced everyone except the Jews to worship dead Roman Emperors. Many envied Jews for having that exemption. I forget where I read that.

Lewis Weinstein Hatred of Jews finds its roots in the early days of the Christian Church, when Jews for the most part did not accept the idea of Jesus as God. There are many excellent histories of the way that hatred played out over the centuries. Much of that history is included in my novel The Heretic.

HB You wrote an exceptionally beautiful book that still resonates with me. I will be one of the first buying a hard copy as soon as you publish your book... Thank you for sharing!

Lewis Weinstein Thanks for your kind words.

Richard A close friend of mine comes from a family of what he refers to as Crypto-Jews. His father was ostensibly a Mexican Catholic, but the family home in northern Mexico had a Mogen David underneath the plaster of a wall with a Catholic cross on top. I believe the story is that they were "converts" who emigrated from Spain. My understanding is that there are still Sephardim who practice a form of Catholicism that has Judaic traditions woven into it in the Nuevo Leon region in Mexico. An utterly fascinating result of the hatred and oppression of Jews.

Lewis Weinstein It is my understanding that secret Jews came to Mexico and the American SW, possibly with Columbus, who set out from Spain on the exact same day the Jews were exiled from Spain in 1492. Jews have spread all over the world.

Richard There's some kind of story out there waiting to be written about the love that this giant goy (6', 6") has for Jews. I grew up in Florida with a divorced working mom and no dad. My best friend Greg was a New York transplant with a Brooklyn accent. His parents made me a part of their family without a second's hesitation (his mother would invite me over during High Holiday parties, clap a yarmulke on my head, and explain to guests that I was an honorary Jew!). His dad, Irwin, was the father figure in my life; a patient, caring, man with an irreverent humor and a passion for living. Lucky me.
