Hi Eden. I totally agree. My most treasured creative writing teacher taught me this, and it has made all the difference. Hope you don't mind me commenting out of the blue like this -- I just stumbled upon you after seeing your post about mystery stories set in San Francisco. I have two, but neither are straight mystery -- they both contain paranormal elements, although those in the first (Hyperlink from Hell) may simply be figments of a deluded mind. (And I'm not tellin'. ;) )
Hi Lindy, thanks very mucy for commenting. I teach fiction writing (novel, short story, screenwriting) to undergraduates on the English programme at my local university and I have found that this is most always the problem and one that's easily solved. I've just downloaded the Stories To Go title you were a part of as this is something I want to explore. I run my university's press and put together anthologies for students so this is something I want to do privately also as I think it has great cross-promotional potential. My current project is putting together a collection of crime shorts set in San Francisco but next year, after finishing my second novel in my thriller series plus a short, I'm going to be working on a supernatural + FBI standalone novel and there may be room there to theme another shorts collection so let's keep in touch. I'll be sure to check out your work in the meantime. Best wishes, Eden
Eden, I'm very interested in any crime/thriller/mystery stories or novels set in San Francisco. I lived in the Bay Area (San Jose) for nine years before moving to Turkey, and I have two sisters in SF. They have a design firm (Reflectur) on Howard St, and only recently started up their publishing arm (The Etling Press) just so they could sponsor my charity troll anthology. My story for that is the title story and is set in San Francisco. It's the start of a series about a witch and her partner who investigate "Hex Crimes" -- and it's a bit more naughty and gritty than most stories of that sort, I hope. I am ridiculously proud of the anthology, and would be happy to send you a mobi in return for a brutally honest review. All the proceeds are donated to Equality Now, an international champion of the human and political rights of women and girls. I have never promoted any of my books and stories -- too embarrassed -- but now I must swallow my reticence (is that even possible?) to do right by this book and the 22 other authors involved. As a matter of fact, two of them live in San Francisco.
I downloaded the sample of "The Breaks" and look forward to finding the time to dive into it!
I hope you find some gems in Stories on the Go. There are a few, and a few little stinkers (don't tell!) because the authors were all accepted on a first-come, first serve basis, in order for it to truly represent a cross-section of indie talent. (We can thank Hugh Howie for that; it was his idea, over at KBoards.) Our worst review actually singles my story out as the reviewer's favorite -- which is pretty funny!
Yes, definitely, let's keep in touch!

Yes please Lindy, I'd love to do a review. Also I'll let you know when The Breaks goes on free promotion (which is soon) so you can download the whole book for free and see how you think I've represented the seedier side of SF's underbelly!
Just realized that I put my email address out in public, so I will delete that and send you a message!
Can't find a way to send you a private message, so put in a friend request to you. I am always totally lost on Goodreads...
Hey again. I've just accepted it so no worries. There's also my web address on here for leaving details etc. Also, thanks for liking my FB page.
Goodreads hates me. I tried to send you a message and it said it couldn't find the "page"! (twice) Arg. I will try your web address.
