Patricia Thanks for answering my question Robert. That's a good reply, but don't you think your current life influences what you write? For example, in Jane Austen's books a girl showed that she was 'modest' and 'ladylike' by constantly looking at the floor and clasping her hands together. But modern acresses don't understand that at all. Nowadays young women have to be decisive and forthright, so they bring these different attitudes to their roles.
What do you think?

Robert Carter Hi Patricia Absolutely! I find it difficult to watch recent dramas on the TV or films, because actors don't capture the social conventions of the time and so they look like soap operas in fancy dress. I take about a year to research my books and I aim to have my characters behave as they would have done in the period. If I didn't do that, then I might as well set my books in the current day. I guess I am a purist!
