Cathy Donnelly I smiled when I read your first sentence. I write historical fiction with a reincarnation theme and some of parts of my stories are set in the present day. I struggle a bit writing in the present day and feel much more comfortable in the past. I think I too with need to "retreat" there for my next novel.

Abigail Bok I’m just terminally old-fashioned and can’t grapple with contemporary mores or life ways. Even when I wrote a nominally present-day book I set it in 1999 so I wouldn’t have to cope with social media. Good luck with your next novel! After all, there’s no saying that if someone is reincarnated, they need to be reincarnated into the now—it could be another “then.”

Cathy Donnelly Good point. You have given me food for thought on how to tackle my next novel, even if it;s a sequel to one of my others. Thank you.
