I agree with your point of the " narrative perspective"; in addition, I agree with Rumi :o) "The wound is the place where the Light enters you".
I feel that to write a great book, that will resonate with the souls of humanity, one has to tap into the " universal truth", ie light.. and this is only possible if your heart had been wounded. For you, it might have been.. army?? for me- 1/3 of a mln of my patients , etc, etc.
