My mother was generally aggravated, but polite, until the day the listener had a cold and kept making these huge sniffs. She finally told them to ge get a Kleenex and promised not to say anything until they got back. The best was the post office though, which was the egg candling shed of the farmer across the road. Of course he candled the mail too, so that most everybody who went to the post office every day knew all your business before you did. And yes, people can be amazingly kind to guests, visitors and others passing through, but I find it stultifying to live there. Maybe some day things will open up so that the strange people will not be so cast out until the third generation, which is the "rule" now. I, too, dream of there being more Beautiful in the world. May it come to pass!
