Jason Howell Thanks for giving it a go, Cath. I may not have quite finished the thought before I worded that question... and I'm still not sure I can fully articulate what I'm trying to get at. I should've let it cook a little longer.

And I agree with you. The fact that a book only *happens* inside a reader's head, that each reader has to process (or even, in some sense, perform) it, makes the notion of a perfect reader pretty problematic (maybe even dumb).

I think I lost sight of that when thinking about this question, so I appreciate it. Thanks very much
