Erika Mailman I love the missions too! We've seen many of them up and down the coast--apparently they are placed a horse's ride away from each other. I loved pioneer and wagon train books too.

Judith Starkston Yes, one of the "missions" of the missions was to provide housing for travelers so that travel was even possible. I drove my school librarian nuts looking for pioneer books I hadn't yet read.

Erika Mailman Did you love Caddie Woodlawn? I want to track it down and read it again.

Judith Starkston Oh, I'd forgotten about Caddie Woodlawn. I did enjoy that book. I can't remember if there were a bunch of them or only one. Senility sets in early! You're right, I bet that would be a fun read now.
