Drat. Sad news. I really wanted this series to feel like it had an ending and to see Fort come out on top somehow....it looks like that's not going to happen.
Well, I'll be optimistic and hope Fort Scott's story will continue in the future. This series is a gem.

Wouldn't you consider a kickstarter campaign to self-publish the last 2 novels?
