Cintia You're right. I need to focus on other art disciplines. I do have planned to visit art museums, but always, for one thing or another, I don't do it. Mostly because they are very far from home, and there's long rides to them, just going and coming back takes me hours. Thank you very, very much for your advice. I'll definitely try exploring other types of art to see what inspired others, and try to discover my own motivations and wishes at the moment of writing... Thank you

Juliet Grey I understand that it is a burden it itself for you to get to and from a museum and that can create even more stress. If looking at fine art might inspire you, you can go onto museums' websites and browse. Many museums have now digitized much of their collections and while it is not the same as seeing a work of art in person, sometimes just looking at color can change your mood and inspire you. I know that when I look at water and cool hues (blues, turquoises), my soul becomes calmer and I feel less stress. I saw an abstract painting in a gallery in Washington DC a little more than a year ago. The colors were deep blues and turquoises and plum colors and I wanted to sit there for hours because the painting made me feel so relaxed (the painter was Mark Rothko, the 20th c. abstract artist). Yet, on an adjacent wall was another Rothko in vibrant reds and yellows and it sort of began to give me a headache when I looked at it for too long. Scientists (and interior decorators!) know that bright colors can stimulate us while cool colors calm and relax us. Maybe even something as simple as changing the color of one wall in the space where you write so that you are looking at a color (or objects in the room) that are a color that you respond to in a positive way -- will help refocus your mind and release your writers block.

Cintia You're right. I need to take a day specifically to dedicate to my inspiration, without waiting for anyone who told me that he/she wants to come with me, and then they can't, and I miss the visit too... You're right, colors do have that effect, I'll definitely have to visit museums

Juliet Grey That happens to me, too! I wait because my mother, or a friend, wants to accompany me -- and then I end up missing the exhibit! It's hard for us to remember that it's not being selfish to take that time for ourselves to create and to do what we need to do to recharge our creative/artists' batteries.

Cintia I don't think it's a question of selfishness, but the feeling that we should be doing other things instead. Work, college, anything...
