Thanks again. I read the Foner book and it was a tough read, maybe because the topic is intrinsically hard to write about. I will check out the others. On another topic, I am reading "The Metaphysical Club: The Story of Ideas in America" by Louis Menand about late nineteenth and early twentieth century philosophy. If you like the topic, you will like the book. It made mention of Samuel Gridly Howe. There exists a biography of him which may find its was on to my reading queue.
