That's awesome that Goodreads implemented this! Your message is so insightful and such an inspiration to me that I'm going to copy/paste and e-mail it to myself. That way I won't lose it. I hope you don't mind.:) Fantastic answer, BTW! It's simple, but so true and succinct. The escapism aspect of reading (and writing, to an extent) is a big part of why I love it, too! My major obstacle is totally immersing myself in the work enough to focus. It seems like there's always one distraction/interruption or another nowadays..
