James Stevens I just got a notice that you had responded so I thought I'd share with you that I just decided to add in another unique character which will play an important role in the book. Writing is always in a constant state of flux, changing with the whims of a dragon!

James Stevens Because you have been so patient, here is a teaser...

Tirate angrily threw back the curtain and stepped out of his small tent into the early morning light. It was bad enough that he was forced to flee his comfortable royal chambers in the Gaul Palace and forced to live with the nomadic barbarian tribes, but did they have to make this much noise when he was trying to sleep?Grumbling, he picked his way through the brush towards the commotion. “What is going on…here?” His words caught in his throat at the strange site before him.At least a dozen ropes hung from a sturdy wooden frame and dangling upside down in the middle was a large, bulbous grey creature with impressive mandibles that snapped ferociously at its restraints. The smell of rot and decay coming from it was overwhelming.Tirate slowly circled around it, watching the unblinking black eyes that seemed to follow his every move. “What is that thing?”Grody held up a handful of broken arrows and frowned in disgust. His thick accent didn’t hide the anger in his voice. “Killed six men. It won’t die!”Tirate raised an eyebrow. The Boer were primitive, but skilled hunters. Their aim was incredibly accurate and their poisoned arrows were lethal. If this creature survived, it had to be tough as dragon scales. The slug-like creature had stopped struggling, and now saliva dripped from its maw, causing the grass below to smolder and hiss.Fascinated, he crouched down and looked the beast directly in the eye. “What sort of animal are….”He never finished his sentence. Suddenly it felt as if his brain was being crushed as the soulless eyes burned deep into his skull. The creature stared at him and he was helpless to look away. He could feel its anger for being captured, its resentment towards humans, but most of all he felt the unmistakable hatred for dragons. A hatred far deeper and darker than his own. A hatred that took his breath away. Then, it abruptly let go and he fell backwards, staring up at the sky. His head ached and he felt nauseated. Worst of all there was something left in the back of his mind, like a black, empty hole. Tirate knew what had just happened to him, he just didn’t understand how. This wretched creature was most definitely not a dragon, so how was it possible that it formed a link?
