Thanks! Yeah, Wolf Hall does that. I've read about Pirenne's work in other books about the Middle Ages, so I really should read it in the source. Thanks again!
Hi Nicole! Could not agree with you more about religion. About 10 years ago, bored & bookless, I saw "The Reformation" by Diarmaid MacCulloch at the library, thought -hmm, don't know much about that, & picked it up. It turned out to be my favorite book of the year, and I SO wish'd I'd read it back when I was Shakespearing a lot (of course, it hadn't been written at the time, but so what). If I had anything to do with the rearin' up of Shakespeare actors these days, that book would be required reading. Have a look at it, if you haven't already. (It won a National Book Critics Circle Award, too, fwiw).
