Ever tried Hardy's poetry? "I look into my glass, /
and see my wasted skin.
I think, I wish to God/
My soul had shrunk as thin.

May be in error--it's been forty years since I read; Hardy alwasy reminded me of the greatest of poets in English, Emily Dickinson.
