Arielle Hunter I agree whole heartedly (sp?) about criticism. Sometimes hurts, but in a good way. Do you belong to a critique group?

message 2: by Victoria (new)

Victoria Dougherty No. I have an editor, an agent and a handful of friends and family who read my stuff. You?

Arielle Hunter Yes to editor, no to agent, yes to friends and family, and yes to critique group. But most of us in the group have become friends, so sometimes I feel the objectivity is lost.

Arielle Hunter I should add that my editor has also become a friend, so a really rigorous, in depth critique might be difficult to come by.

Victoria Dougherty I know - that's the problem with critique groups. I also don't like to write by committee. I prefer to get the opinion from a hand-picked few who know how to critique - and that's critical because most people don't. They think their opinion is a critique, you know what I mean? - and who tell me how it is.

Arielle Hunter Yes, I know exactly what you mean about opinions masquerading as critique. And those folk are usually loud about their opinion. Also, I came across the phrase "writing by committee" some time ago, but didn't have a picture of what that would be like. Now I get it. Thank you.
