I do love pedants! No, seriously, I think about this stuff too. The key in the sentence above is "held UP her hands" -- i.e., her hand is vertical, not horizontal. For horizontal, I would write "held OUT her hand." And in a vertical meeting of palms, you can of course intertwine fingers.
Also, in the interest of being thorough, the above greeting is not standard at all -- two palms is reserved for close friends and family, and kneeling is extremely rare. Ekatya had no idea just how much respect she was being given in that moment, but it was the equivalent of Queen Elizabeth kneeling to the captain of an aircraft carrier.

On a side note, can I ask a rather pendantic question? - and you can ignore this if its just too crazy a question ;) Its about the way the Alseans greet each other - so to quote "She went down on one knee and held up both her hands, palms outwards.....settling their hand together and watching as Lancer Tal intertwined their fingers and closed hers down" - if I lay my palm on someone else's outstretched palm, and we are both facing each other, how can we then intertwine fingers? I can cover their fingers with my hand by closing my palm, but surely I can't intertwine fingers with them if we are facing each other? (told you it was a crazy question!)
